Plastic Laser Cutting

American Micro Industries has extensive plastic laser cutting capabilities. We work with a range of materials and can quickly turn around projects to your specifications. The laser cutting process allows for a high level of accuracy and intricacy when working with plastics, making it a great choice for a variety of applications.

Materials and Applications

American Micro Industries provides laser cutting services for the following plastics:

  • Acetal: Acetal is a crystalline resin often used in high load mechanical applications. Delrin® is a well-known trade name. Common laser cut acetal components include safety restraints, gears and various healthcare products.
  • Acrylics: Acrylics such as Plexiglas® and Lucite® offer impact resistance and several other beneficial properties. American Micro Industries can laser cut acrylics as an alternative to more expensive glass or polycarbonate.
  • Noryl®: This modified polyphenylene oxide offers dimensional stability, low specific gravity and easy processing. Laser cut Noryl components are ideal for use in electronics and electrical equipment, among other applications.
  • PVDF: Laser cut PVDF — or polyvinylidene fluoride polymer — components are typically used in applications where strong chemical resistance and thermal stability are required. Kynar® and Solef® are two common trade names.
  • Polycarbonates: This category includes Lexan® and Mackrolon®, two thermoplastics with good temperature and impact resistance, as well as unique optical properties. We can laser cut polycarbonates for any industrial, automotive or other specialized application.
  • Polypropylene: Also known as PP, this is a thermoplastic stands up well against mechanical breakdown. Laser cut dielectric insulators and medical devices are some of the more common PP applications.
  • Teflon®: This well-known synthetic fluoropolymer with a low coefficient of friction is often used in bushings and bearings. American Micro Industries can laser cut standard, and virgin electrical grade Teflon.
  • UHMW and HDPE: Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene and high-density polyethylene are durable materials with a high impact strength and excellent corrosion resistance. Demanding applications, such as high strength bearings, seals and biomedical devices, often use laser cut HDPE or UHMW components, as well as custom machining.

American Micro Industries’ Plastic Laser Cutting Capabilities

American Micro Industries can laser cut plastic components from AutoCAD or similar diagrams. The laser cutting process does not melt or burn any of the plastics we work with, leaving a clean edge that’s accurate to within 10 micrometers of your specifications.
